Will the city’s ad campaign get New Yorkers to lay off the booze?


The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene this week debuted a series of graphic outdoor ads, warning New Yorkers to reign in excessive drinking during a time of the year when alcohol consumption increases. The ads, depicting a woman slumped over on a dark stairway and a man with a bloody face, are meant to remind New Yorkers that drinking too much can have nasty consequences.

One version of the city's new ad campaign shows a woman dressed for a night out and slumped on the stairs with the warning,

Will the ad campaign curb binge drinking?

Yes, the ads will make many people think twice about overdoing it at holiday parties.
No, anyone who has trouble controlling their alcohol intake will not be influenced by an advertising campaign.
