Obama/GOP Tax Deal – The Good, Bad and Ugly

H/T South Florida TEA Party:Dear Patriots,

I just came back from DC where I met with Congress members and conservative leaders. Thanks to your calls, faxes, etc the Dream Act has been tabled till at least next week!

As most of you know, I am not a DC insider and used to the games that are played. Therefore, I am stepping back from supporting the “Obama/GOP Tax Deal” between President Obama and the GOP in the current form. I think it important that our members, who are the real leaders of the movement, decide the fate of this “Obama/GOP Tax Deal”.

It is my humble opinion that if we see the tax rates go up in January, we could see very serious dip in the economy, massive hyperinflation, shortly followed by stagflation. The Liberals would love to see more people on unemployment and broken down main street America.

A quick glance back to the last time we experience the inflation/stagflation issue was in 1976-1980. I believe that if we see these massive tax increases, President Obama will be himself on the unemployment line. However, it was extremely costly and took businesses several years to recover.

Conservatives are split on the “deal” while Liberals ALL hate this “deal.” There are many conservative organizations, such as NTU and Freedomworks, that are supporting this “deal”. However, there are also many great conseratives, such as Sen. DeMint that appose this deal. A great article was written by Philip Klein, Should Conservatives Support the Tax Cut Deal? It is these crossroads that I look toward our membership for help.

A quick review of the “Obama/GOP Tax Deal” – Good, Bad & Ugly
Good – Individual Tax Rates Remain the Same
Good – AMT Remain the Same
Good – Capital Gains Rates the Same
Fair – Estate Taxes Go Up For Some ($5 Million Exemption)
Bad – Only Good For Two Years
Bad – Unemployment Benefits Extended
Ugly – $857 Billion in Stimulus Spending (according to CBO, you KNOW it’s higher!)
Ugly- Dozens of Earmarks for Special Interests

Obama/GOP Tax Deal
01 & 03 Bush Tax Cuts $364 billion
AMT Patch $137 billion
Payroll Tax Holiday $112 billion
Estate Tax Change $68 billion
Unemployment Extension $56 billion
Tax Extenders $55 billion
2009 Tax Relief $43 billion
Expensing Provision $22 billion
