The Coming Revolution: Creating a New Middle East

From al Qaeda to Iran, Islamic terrorists are on the march in the Middle East. Yet there is another movement in the region that has gained few headlines but could be just as important. Pro-democracy activists have been working to create a new Middle East — with little help from the West. Nadim Gemayel is one such reformer. As a boy, he saw his father murdered by Syrian thugs. Today, as a member of Lebanon’s parliament, he is witnessing the rise of another terror threat inside his country in the form of the terror group Hezbollah. The group has gained major influence in Lebanon, thanks largely to Iranian support. “Hezbollah is a very dangerous party because they are trying to impose to Lebanon their policy and their vision of jihad and martyrdom. And this is unacceptable,” Gemayel said. Yet according to President Obama’s National Security Advisor John Brennan, the administration wants to build up “more moderate elements” of Hezbollah. The effort to reach so-called moderates has also included the Taliban. The president has also made diplomacy and dialogue with Iran a top foreign policy priority. Fox News terrorism and Middle East expert Walid Phares claims this strategy is misguided. In his new book,”The Coming Revolution: Struggle for Freedom in the Middle East,” he argues that Western governments are empowering radicals at the expense of true democratic reformers in the Middle East. http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/world/2010/December/The-Coming-Revolution-Creating-a-New-Middle-East-/
