Mount Soledad Cross declared unconstitutional
Today a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that the cross atop Mount Soledad is unconstitutional but the ruling does not mean that the landmark must be removed.
The unanimous ruling, made by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, said the 43-foot-tall cross sent a message of government endorsement of religion that violates the Establishment Clause.

“In a long-awaited opinion, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Tuesday, that cross is unconstitutional, but that it doesn’t need to be taken down.”

The court offered no guidance as to what sort of modifications could be made to make it pass constitutional muster, but it would seem that including symbols from other religions would help towards that end.

Suits against the Mount Soledad Cross were filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and Jewish veteran groups. It is almost certain that this case will be sent to the Supreme Court for consideration.

Whether or not the Mount Soledad Cross is constitutional, it is indeed offensive to unbelievers where ever it is. 1 Corinthians 1:18 says , “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
