ALERT: Amidst escalating violence, BAFTE (the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) is forcing citizens in the Border States to register their firearms! BAFTE is a federal law enforcement organization that investigates federal offenses involving firearms, explosives, and the illegal trafficking of alcohol and tobacco products.
BAFTE is also in charge of regulating the sale, possession, and transportation of guns and ammo across state lines.
The law was the brainchild of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his buddies at Mayors Against Illegal Guns. This group pushes for extreme anti-gun legislation such as a national registry and tracking chips in every gun!

Anti-Gun & Anti-Hunting Obama Czar In Charge Of Passing Proposal

The proposal could become law as soon as next month! The final decision is up to the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA.) OIRA is headed by Cass Sunstein, Obama’s regulatory Czar and close buddy. Sunstein has a long record of pushing for wildlife and livestock rights. That’s liberal speak for a nationwide hunting ban, which pretty much tells you how he’s going to vote.
The law is being touted as the solution to the growing violence at the Mexican border. In reality, the law puts unnecessary scrutiny on law-abiding gun owners who simply want to protect their families. Over the past few years, murders, home invasions and kidnappings near the border have skyrocketed. So far, violence along the Mexican border has killed 30,196 Americans and Mexicans. The number of Americans killed in or near Mexico has more than doubled from 35 in 2007 to 79 in 2009.

BAFTE has singled out four Border States to implement the new law. BAFTE officials say it will also help deter gun smuggling. Currently, BAFTE uses a gun tracing system called eTrace to keep tabs on guns that were manufactured in or legally imported from the U.S. to Mexico. The tracing system punishes American gun manufacturers with unnecessary costs and hassles.
So far, BAFTE’s gun tracing system has been a dismal failure. In November, an OIG (Office of the Inspector General) analysis of BAFTE data showed only 27% to 44% of guns with the eTrace chips could be accounted for. The criminals simply decided to get their guns from other sources. Ironically, the United States isn’t the only source the Mexican drug cartels obtain weapons and ammo. You can be sure other countries aren’t bothering to put microchips in the guns they sell to Mexico.

The War On Our Doorstep

The most recent testament to the catastrophic failure of BAFTE’s many gun regulatory laws happened on December 15th when a U.S. border patrol agent, attempting to nab a group of Mexican bandits was killed in the ensuing gun fight. Agent Brian Terry was a member of the Border Patrol’s Elite Search, Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) team. Four of the five suspected shooters were taken into custody. The fifth still remains at large.
Clearly, stricter gun laws, tighter regulations and an expanded gun registry will do nothing to quell the rising tides of violence on our borders. Passing a law that makes it more difficult to sell and or obtain firearms for self-defense puts the life of every American who lives near the Mexican border at risk. Enough is enough. We must stop this anti-gun legislation dead in its tracks!
