| For Senate Dems, more taxes and spending result in more debt, more bad news, more infighting and fewer members |
| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: January 13, 2011-New York State Republican Party Chairman Ed Cox released the following statement in reaction to revelations in City Hall News today about the Senate Democrats’ gross mismanagement of their campaign committee finances. City Hall News has reported a series of stories about how the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee has taken out millions of dollars in unguaranteed loans without the knowledge of their own conference members, racking up an historically massive campaign debt that they may not be able to pay off. Such revelations prove that no one should take seriously they claim they will take back the majority. “Senate Democrats have grossly mismanaged the taxpayers’ money and their contributors’ money. They voted to raise taxes and fees by $14 billion, then spent every dime and more, leaving the state with a $10 billion deficit. Under the leadership of Senators Sampson, Smith and Espada, they even overspent their own Senate operations budget by a staggering sum – almost $14 million – and their campaign committee is $3 million in the red. The new head of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, Senator Gianaris, keeps talking about phantom special elections and the Democrats winning back the majority, even though since Election Day, the Senate Democratic conference has shrunk from 32 members, to 30 members, to 26 members. Any fund raising appeal by Senate Democrats is little more than asking someone to buy the Brooklyn Bridge or Statue of Liberty. They are lost in the woods without a map or compass and they can’t afford to buy a GPS. The people’s vote of no confidence in Senate Democrats has been backed up by a tidal wave of bad news reports about their financial mismanagement and mishandling of taxpayer money. Senator Gianaris’ boasts are a whisper being drowned out by Senator Sampson’s shouts and non-stop political infighting.” |
