(Target America) “The Times Square Bomb Plot”
This latest release in the NEFA Foundation’s “Target: America” series covers Faisal Shahzad’s May 1, 2010 attempt to set off a car bomb in New York City’s Times Square. Shahzad, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Pakistan, lived a seemingly unremarkable life in Connecticut with his wife and two children. There were no outward indicators that Shahzad had become radicalized, primarily through material viewed on the Internet, or that his last trip to Pakistan from late 2009 to early 2010 had been for the express purpose of training with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to prepare for the execution of a deadly attack in the United States. This report provides a background on Shahzad’s life in the United States, his training in Pakistan and ongoing connection with the TTP, the acquisition of explosive materials, and details of the execution of the bombing attempt. http://nefafoundation.org//file/TATimes-Square0111.pdf
