
Shaykh Anwar al-Awlaki: “A Message to the Media”
On February 13, 2011, most wanted Yemeni-American cleric Shaykh Anwar al-Awlaki issued a new audio recording in order to deliver “a message to the media”. Once again, Awlaki’s latest audio was released independently of the official Malahem media wing of Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). During his audio, al-Awlaki drew specific attention to the case of jailed Yemeni journalist and accused AQAP media adviser AbdelElah Shaea. Awlaki claimed that “Shaea [was arrested] because he revealed America’s crimes in Yemen” Shaea “carried out his journalistic duty…and AbdelElah’s tribe and the Yemeni people in general have a duty to support him.” He added, “The candle that AbdelElah has lit in the darkness of the politicized and tightly-controlled Arabic media will not be extinguished.” (Read More)
