TAX THE RICH IN NY: Seems there aren’t that many rich…ONLY 64 thousand families making $500,000 +

out of 19,541,453* people in NY…only 64,000 households make $500,000 or more…so how does this “tax the rich” work to ‘balance the budget?

“An effort by the state to notify homeowners who earn more than $500,000 a year that their property-tax exemption expires this year is turning into a headache for state and local officials.”

The state Department of Taxation and Finance said last week that its data are inaccurate, and told tax assessors in local governments to scrap the initial list of roughly 64,000 families statewide who were identified as earning more than $500,000 a year.”

“My phone’s ringing off the hook because people are like, ‘I don’t make anywhere near $500,000. What are you doing?'” said Edye McCarthy, the assessor of Greenburgh, Westchester County.
The same scenario has been playing out in almost every town in the state, with homeowners questioning how they ended up on a list earning more than $500,000 when they clearly don’t.”
