Brighton residents gather after swastika incident

Holocaust Remembrance Day took on special significance Sunday for residents of a Brighton neighborhood where two 17-year-old boys were arrested late Saturday for burning a swastika on a residential street.
The pair was charged with fifth-degree arson and first degree aggravated harassment for burning paper and gasoline laid out in the middle of Edgemere Drive in the shape of a swastika about 11 p.m., said Brighton Police Sgt. Dave Molisani said.

The boys were at the scene when police arrived Saturday and made incriminating statements to police, but offered no explanation for their alleged actions, Molisani said.

The teenagers were ticketed and are scheduled to appear in Brighton Town Court on May 9. Molisani refused to release the boys’ names because he said they are eligible for youthful offender status, which could lead to records of the case being sealed.
One of the boys is from Brighton, but not from the Edgemere neighborhood. The other boy is from Rush, Molisani said.

This hate-crime was intentional and was staged between two Jewish Temples. Jews in Rochester are targets of the progressive left and have been for many years. It has been ignored and swept under the rug but any supposed slight to a moslem is national news, even when they perpetrate the crimes themselves.

This is devastating news. I, myself, am jewish, and reading this article is prompting me to write a letter to the democrat and chronicle explaining who I am and thanking them for covering the story. I plan to cover my disgust with the teenagers involved, as I am still in high school. Yom Hashoah, as it is called in my faith, is a day of tears for many, as we are still mourning the loss of family members, whether they be grandparents or great-grandparents who either survived or died in the concentration camps. It is simply unacceptable for these teens to have behaved in this way. I do understand anti-semitism, as I have dealt with it my entire life. However, I honestly cannot believe that even now, in light of the tragedies in the Holocaust, and education in schools, that hate crimes like this are still occuring.

It makes my physically ill to see what is happening across the globe, to Jewish people and to Christians. This was more horrendous seeing they chose Holocaust Remembrance Day to display their hate. Much like the crucifictions of the 13 christians in Somolia two years ago Christmas. People need to wake up.
