A Look at the White House Cybersecurity Plan
Security and justice officals to testify
A White House plan announced earlier this month would ask private companies to draft their own cybersecurity programs but allow the federal government the power to review the proposals. Today, lawmakers get a chance to review and react to the plan with security and justice officials.
The Obama Administration’s proposal taps the Department of Homeland Security as the top cybersecurity agency charged with leading the program. This will likely be of concern when the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee meet today at 10:30am ET.
Another point of discussion will be a plan that calls for international cooperation on combating cybercrime and protecting global networks. “The International Strategy for Cyberspace calls for the U.S. government to work with its global counterparts in securing cyberspace,” stated White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt.
The deputy assistant secretary of Defense for cyber policy, Robert Butler will testify alongside Philip Reitinger, Deputy Chief of the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS). http://c-span.org/Events/A-Look-at-the-White-House-Cybersecurity-Plan/10737421680/
