What’s the most effective way to persuade people to quit smoking?

On Tuesday, The Food and Drug Administration revealed a series of graphic images it plans to put on the outside of cigarette packaging by next year. Among the images to appear on cigarette packs are rotting and diseased teeth and gums and a man with a tracheotomy smoking. The move was championed by New York City officials who have tried various methods over the past decade to shrink the number of smokers in the city.

What’s the best way to get New Yorkers to give up the cigs?

Keep raising the price of cigarettes. If $11 a pack isn’t enough, raise it to $12.
Graphic images of sick and dying smokers. Soon, all packs will feature vivid images of corpses and sick people.
Expand the smoking ban to more areas of the city. Parks and beaches are smoke-free. How about sidewalks?
