June 30, 2011 I received three particularly informative emails in response to the 3 (! egad!) emails I put out on 6/29/11 re: the concern about halal meat in the US. I thought they were well worth sharing —Dorrie.

 I have friends in the UK who have researched this issue from a Biblical perspective, and their teaching is basically that 1) because allah is a false god and is one of a myriad of ‘demon’ gods of the Arabian nations then it is a demon. 2) because halal meat must be slaughtered by a Muslim and specific Islamic prayers are said over it then it is deemed to be “offered to” said false ‘demon-god’ then 3) eating such meat is eating meat offered to idols–demons– and therefore participating in idolatry.

It is worth noting that the difference with Kashrut (kosher slaughter) is that the meat is not “offered” to God since it is forbidden in the Torah to offer ANY sacrifice anywhere other than the Temple in Jerusalem, which was destroyed 2000 yrs ago. Therefore kosher meat is slaughtered only in a certain way in obedience to the Torah and there is no religious or spiritual participation with God in eating it. Many people prefer to eat kosher meat because it is healthier, cleaner, the blood drained and their practice is more humane. Some people might like to make the argument that halal slaughter is more humane for the same reason, but you only have to look at the laws in their books and their society in general and compare it to the Torah to know that this is nonsense. There is NOTHING humane in Islam. My friends in the UK have found out that all the slaughter houses operating in the UK are Halal with the exception of one owned, I think, by the Prince of Wales.

It is for this reason that they are actually very careful what they say to other Christians in the UK about the halal issue, because according to the writings of Paul, once a believer is informed that the meat is halal, they are obligated NOT to eat it, but that if they eat NOT knowing that the meat is halal, then there is no issue. (See 1 Corinthians 8) For this reason, they are vegetarians. That way there is not an issue if they dine at someone elses home. They  rarely eat out. It is also for this same reason that some of my friends have begun raising their own animals and learning to kosher slaughter their own meat.

As an Orthodox Jew, this issue goes beyond Islam, as the prevalence of banning kosher slaughter (which is meant to be humane and as painless as possible) is moving through Europe.  Apparently, they are incorporating Hallal restrictions with it as in this case, Mohammed seems to have derived many of the laws from ours, since they are similar. The fact of a public vote to ban circumcision in San Francisco is another in a wave of frightening and very anti-Semitic propaganda (but I guess in these cases also anti-Muslim).

I never thought I would write you in defense of Islam in any way, but I thought you should know where Islam and Judaism actually do have some similarities and where an effort to constrain Islam is also constraining Judaism.

 [If the bills are written correctly, in the US or anywhere else, the resultant laws would not refer to any specific religious activity, but ONLY to the supremacist, jihadi, and inhumane Sharia/Islamic laws that need to be expunged from society. Halal food in and of itself is not the problem (except as the way the animals are killed, and the lack of humane thinking from Sharia is at the root of that, too); it’s the ideology behind it that is the problem.—Dorrie]

 Please keep in mind, however, that Jews never enforce their belief or their needs on others, and we would never say that there needs to be kosher establishments unless we are willing to build and pay for them ourselves. We must object, however, to laws enacted that prevent us from following our religious laws, such as the latest vote in Dutch Parliament to ban both kosher and halal procedures. [The Dutch seem at present to be struggling with the right way to handle their demise.]

 Thank God Geert Wilders won his trial, but this is the same country that allowed him to spend who knows how much to defend himself in a ridiculous witch-hunt trial.

A Bloody Business.

I have to say that the last thing I expected to be doing when I got up this morning was to study halal meat and how it gets to be halal, but the interest I’ve received on the previous two emails has made me keep looking into it . . . which led me to the video, which will/should break anyone’s heart who watches it. It is brutally hard to watch, believe me. I doubt I’ll sleep well this evening.

I studied further in Reliance of the Traveler for the laws on halal meat. If you want to look it up, the instructions are found in J17.2 – J17.8. The gist of it is: It’s not halal unless the animal is alive (and some would argue, as is argued in this video, that it must also be conscious, which makes it inhumane at the least) when its throat is cut. Also, for the most part, it is not halal if any but a Muslim kills the animal.

This video sent me on a search for how animals that are destined for the American Muslim restaurants & markets are killed in America. If any of you want to help me with research on that, I’d appreciate your input.

KFC, in Dearbornistan, by the way, is serving all halal chicken. No real surprise there.

I am not claiming that Muslims’ requirement for halal meat is the problem . . . the problem is when they foist it on unsuspecting Americans who are then ipso facto supporting the tenets of Islam, #1 of which is that everybody has to submit to Islam. Halal is the new stealth jihad:
