The driver’s license of a former newspaper journalist and self-admitted illegal immigrant has been cancelled by the state of Washington.

Jose Vargas obtained a Washington driver’s license just weeks before his Oregon license was set to expire as Oregon changed its law three years ago to not allow illegal immigrants to receive a full driver’s license (for driving and for ID purposes).

Washington currently requires those who have a Social Security number to provide it when they apply but those who do not must sign a declaration to that effect.
