From GrassFire Nation – The Debt Fight Unravels

Earlier today I wrote about Boehner’s debt ceiling bill and how it fails to address the current problem in any significant way. My report might have been a tad harsh, but I just called it as I see it.

You can read the full report here. In short, Boehner’s bill does the following:

Allows Obama to spend another $1 trillion between now and February of 2012
Allows for a “super congress” committee that can (and likely will at some point) hike taxes
Cuts approximately $840 billion over a ten year period
Boehner is currently re-writing the bill to try and get the amount of cuts over a ten year period to $1 trillion. I’m not sure how Boehner or the Republicans who support this plan see any value in doing so. Even if the cuts were evenly spread across a ten year period (most cuts will come towards the end of the ten year period) that would come out to $100 billion a year with $1 trillion being the total. This when the federal government spends $10 billion a day.

We need to keep the pressure on Congress to push the Cut, Cap and Balance approach. Our own petition now has some 110,000 signatures and it’s still growing every day. Clearly Americans are fed up with out-of-control spending and giving Obama another $1 trillion to blow between now and February of 2012 isn’t going to cut it.

Please contact your Representative and let him/her know where you stand! If you haven’t already done so, sign our petition and demand a balanced budget solution.
