ALBANY, NEW YORK – For the second time in a week, Senator Gillibrand and Senator Schumer have voted against raising the debt ceiling. Their politically motivated and irresponsible vote has moved America one step closer toward default, and has put New Yorkers in an untenable position.

Senator Gillibrand and Senator Schumer’s failure to offer a viable solution and their unwillingness to stand up to their own party, once again demonstrates their inability to lead. With Senator Reid filibustering his own bill, it is clear democrats are not serious about the crisis at hand.

Contrast that with Republicans in the House, who have passed two reasonable and responsible bills that would cut our reckless Government spending, work towards a balanced budget, and put us on a path towards economic stability.

With 398,000 new Americans filing for unemployment, and our second quarter GDP growing at an anemic 1.3%, Senator Gillibrand and Senator Schumer would rather save the job of President Obama, than ensure that millions of Americans are put back to work. It is time for Senator Gillibrand and Senator Schumer to join Republicans in a bipartisan effort to end this crisis without putting our nation’s economy at greater risk.
