NOW THAT A DEBT DEAL IS DONE, Rep. Adam Smith of Washington is hoping to refocus congressional attention on Libya.
The ranking Democrat on HASC has introduced a resolution authorizing U.S. military operations there for 180 days.
The measure would bar the use of ground troops except to rescue NATO forces in imminent danger or to provide humanitarian aid.
It also requires President Barack Obama to communicate frequently with Congress about U.S. actions and strategic goals in Libya, and also to provide an updated justification for the operation under the War Powers Act.
