In February 2008, Daniel failed to check in with the Department of Homeland Security and was then considered an immigration fugitive. Following his arrest, Daniel became irate kicking and punching at officers and threatened to kill an officer with a shard of broken the car’s Plexiglas partition.

CA SENATE PANEL APPROVES PUBLIC-FUNDING OF DREAM ACT

The California Senate Appropriations Committee approved the final part of a two-bill package known as the California Dream Act which will allow illegal immigrant students who qualify for reduced in-state tuition to apply for an estimated $40 million in Cal Grants, community college fee waivers, and other public scholarship and grant programs. The bill is expected to pass the Senate and Assembly next week and go to the governor shortly thereafter.

A Senate fiscal analysis estimates the bill’s annual costs at $13 million for Cal Grants, $15 million for community college fee waivers, and $12 million in institutional aid for UC and CSU. Just last month, leftist Governor Jerry Brown signed a companion bill, AB 130, giving illegal immigrants access to $88 million in private scholarships and grants for the first time.
