President Obama and Senate Democrats would rather shut down the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) than fail to meet one of their union bosses’ demands.
In April, the House passed the long overdue FAA Reauthorization Bill.
But, since the bill fixes an outrageous Big Labor power grab, the Senate Democrats have refused to act.
Last year, the National Mediation Board (NMB) threw away 70 years of precedent and changed the rules to tilt the playing field strongly in favor of the airline and railroad unions.
And, with the most recent short-term FAA funding expiring September 16, Big Labor’s Senate allies and President Obama plan to do everything in their power to ensure the union bosses keep their illicit new power.
That is why it is VITAL that you call Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor and Chairman Mica of the Transportation Committee and urge them to stand firm against union boss pressure on the FAA Bill, and continue to protect transportation workers’ freedom.
Speaker of the House Hon. John Boehner: (202) 225-0600
Majority Leader Hon. Eric Cantor: (202) 225-2815
Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Hon. John Mica: (202) 225-9446
The fact is, Big Labor’s Senate allies will ensure the House’s provision to the FAA Bill, which restores the union certification rules for railway and aviation workers under the Railway Labor Act, is destroyed in the Senate.
You see, in July 2010 the National Mediation Board — without the consent of Congress — decided to do a favor for Big Labor and allow railroad and airline workers to unionize if half of the voting workers supported the union.
The NMB rule change goes against the long-standing precedent of requiring the vote of the majority of ALL workers in the proposed bargaining unit.
This means that a union can be certified as the sole bargaining unit by only having the support of a minority of workers.
For example, if a company has 100 workers, and only 50 workers show up to vote in the election, it would only take 26 pro-union voters for the union to be able to organize all of the company’s workers.
And under the Railway Labor Act, it’s virtually impossible for these workers to ever decertify their union.
That is why we must act TODAY to ensure that Chairman Mica and House Republican Leadership stand firm against the union boss pressure, and continue to protect transportation workers’ freedom.
Big Labor’s pressure on this is intense. If we don’t want Chairman Mica and the House Republican Leadership to cave into President Obama and Big Labor’s threats, we must act now to urge them to carry on the fight.
If Congress fails to pass a FAA Reauthorization Bill that overturns the NMB ruling, thousands of American workers will continue to be forced into the chokehold of the union bosses which would only further strengthen the Big Labor giant.
The good news is, Chairman Mica set out to protect the American worker by repealing the NMB’s unprecedented decision in the House FAA Reauthorization Bill and has indicated that he plans to see it through.
But, in the final days of the FAA funds, the House and Senate will have to negotiate to create a comprehensive FAA Reauthorization Bill.
That’s why you, I and millions of other Right to Work supporters need to ensure that Chairman Mica and the House Republican Leadership fight to preserve the provision that overturns the NMB’s unprecedented rule change.
But if we’re going to succeed, it’s going to take a massive outpouring of support from Americans just like you to overcome Big Labor’s pressure campaign.
So please, call Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor and Chairman Mica to urge them to stand firm against union boss pressure on the FAA Bill, and continue to protect transportation workers’ freedom.
Speaker of the House Hon. John Boehner: (202) 225-0600
Majority Leader Hon. Eric Cantor: (202) 225-2815
Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Hon. John Mica: (202) 225-9446
Together, you and I can ensure thousands of transportation workers are protected from being forced under the thumb of Big Labor.
Sincerely,
Mark Mix
P.S. The House FAA Reauthorization Bill provides a provision overturning the National Mediation Board’s unprecedented rule from last year, which made it far too easy to force airline and railroad workers into unions they don’t want.
It’s up to you and me to ensure this provision stays in the FAA Reauthorization Bill to protect transportation workers’ freedom.
So please, call Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor and Chairman Mica and ask them to stand firm against union boss pressure on the FAA Bill.
