Afghan ambush heroics go unrecognized

MARINE SGT. DAKOTA MEYER wants to set the record straight before he gets his Medal of Honor from Obama on Thursday for bravery during a Sept. 8, 2009, fight in eastern Afghanistan. Meyer is lobbying on behalf of former Army Capt. William Swenson, who worked with him to rescue the bodies of a four-man training team killed in a Taliban ambush. It’s believed that Swenson hasn’t received an award because he harshly criticized superior officers for refusing to send fire support, but the Army said he’s up for a decoration. Says Meyer: “If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be alive today.”
