ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT SAYS DEADLY DUI “COULDN’T BE AVOIDED”

On Tuesday, a Douglas County, Nebraska judge sentenced illegal immigrant and Guatemalan national Victor Rodriguez, 27, to 20 to 40 years in prison for two counts of vehicular homicide.

Rodriguez had just left his company’s Christmas party on December 12, 2010, when he slammed into another vehicle killing two young men in South Omaha. Rodriguez immediately fled the scene and was later arrested at his home. Rodriguez had no license and was speeding at the time of the wreck.

During his half-hearted apology using a Spanish-language interpreter he said the accident “couldn’t be avoided.” With tough enforcement of immigration law and a secure southern border, it just may have been.
