FEDS CHARGE 20 WITH LURING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO WORK IN STRIP CLUBS
On Wednesday, federal officials charge 20 people in an elaborate scheme to recruit illegal immigrants from Russia and Eastern European countries to work as exotic dancers in New York strip clubs. The charges include racketeering, extortion, visa and marriage fraud, and transporting and harboring illegal immigrants. Those accused of the crimes are alleged to be members of the Gambino and Bonanno organized crime families who abused the student J1 visa program in order to get the women into the country. So that they might profit through a combination of extortion and fraud.
