DETROIT EMPLOYER CAUGHT HIRING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
Earlier this week, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents raided Grigg Box Company and arrested 14 illegal immigrants as well as a supervisor. The raid was the result of an eight month-long investigation following a federal audit back in February that discovered 35 employees using suspected fake documents. Through the use of an informant, investigators recorded Edward Schlacht, 48, hiring an illegal immigrant who admitted to being in the country illegal and ineligible for employment.
Schlacht was charged with knowingly accepting false documentation in the course of hiring undocumented workers and faces up to 10 years in prison and fine of up to $250,000. Detroit’s official unemployment rate is a staggering 27% though a local newspaper reports the actual rate of unemployment in the city at a staggering 44.8%.
PERRY SAYS WILL DEPORT ALL DETAINED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
Texas governor and presidential contender Rick Perry vowed on Tuesday to deport all illegal immigrants detained in the country if elected president as he sought to burnish his conservative credentials on immigration. Gov. Perry has faced well-deserved criticism from Republican rivals for his “soft” approach to illegal immigration that included offering in-state tuition to illegal immigrants in his state. Current policy allows non-violent illegal immigrants who are arrested to stay in the country while awaiting deportation hearings in immigration courts.
