This holiday season, a local family has a lot to be thankful for and they shared their inspiration story with News10NBC.Danny Thomas, 46, is a retired marine and an amputee. He is also one of the first 25 people in the nation to receive a new bionic leg developed in collaboration with the U.S. Military. And while the prosthetic is life changing, Thomas’ life changed long before he received his new leg.This holiday season, everyone could use a little inspiration. Thomas said, “I just try to be an inspiration for other people that have been injured or have been through a difficult time — just try to help lift their spirits.”Twenty years ago, Thomas was involved in an accident – an explosion involving an oil barrel. “It shot me about 25 to 30 feet and I had to get my left leg above the knee amputated and all my fingers and my ear lobes.”The accident was a blow to his body but not his spirit. Today, Thomas is celebrating a new prosthetic leg. “It feels like a part of my body and it’s a Godsend to me because it feels like my natural leg, like my real leg.”It’s just another step in his road to recovery.Read More: http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S2425557.shtml
