Woman and Child Freed From Alleged Captivity Thanks to Facebook Post

A woman in Utah was freed after she and her son were apparently held captive for five days. She says that if it weren’t for Facebook, they’d be dead.
KSTU’s Ben Winslow reports that the woman sneaked into a closet while being held captive in her home, and posted the following message on Facebook: “Hello … is anyone out there? I am having a serious problem and me and my son will be dead by morning.”
Her Facebook friends saw the message and contacted police. When officers went to her home, Troy Reed Critchfield answered the door. The woman told police that every time she tried to leave the home, Critchfield choked her. He was later arrested.
Sgt. Jon Arnold says, “It was a good thing that social media, in this situation, was able to allow her to reach out and make a cry for help.”
