On Tuesday President Obama delivered his State of the Union Address to our nation. Once again he advocated following a path that has been tried and has failed to create much needed jobs, and lead our nation to recovery.
Congressman Cantor issued the following statement:
“For the past three years, President Obama has sought to pile more taxes, more regulations and higher debt on small businesses – preventing long-term growth and economic recovery. Right now, small businesses are frozen and don’t have the certainty they need to expand and create jobs, leaving far too many Americans out of work. But what the American people heard tonight is that the President’s latest vision relies on the same failed policies that haven’t worked to recover the economy or get people back to work. When something doesn’t work, you change it. Instead of continuing the failed policies of President Obama that we know don’t work, let’s try something new. We can do better.
“We need bold, pro-growth policies that focus squarely on the job engines in this country – our nation’s small businesses. We need to encourage the economy to grow faster than by just a percent or two like the status quo, and instead focus bigger like 4 or 5%. We need to reduce the constant threat of taxes, overreach and red tape that are plaguing small businesses and hardworking taxpayers. Small businesses need to know that America is open for business and that Washington won’t make it harder for them to succeed. By helping small businesses grow, we will spur job creation, boost American competitiveness, and foster start-ups – all the things that make this country great.”
Congressman Cantor appeared on several news programs yesterday. He discussed the need for Washington to stop pushing policies that don’t work and instead to focus on fostering an environment for small businesses to create jobs. Below are some excerpts:
Focus on Small Business
CBS News
“I don’t think anyone wants to pay higher taxes. I think the reason why Warren Buffett’s secretary and so many millions of other Americans are frustrated is they see policies that have been promoted for the last three years by this White House that, frankly, don’t work. What do most people do when you reach a point and see that things aren’t working? You try something new. That’s what we’re trying to advocate, we’ve got a bold vision for this country on how to focus on a growth oriented, small business perspective. Let’s get out of the mind-set of saying that Washington’s got to start this program and initiate some other new project, because that’s not what America is built on. The backbone of America has to do with the aspirational sense of small business in this country. That’s where jobs come from. That’s what people want to see. Hopefully, we can come together on that simple notion that small business is the backbone of America and we’ve got to provide the actual vision and the policies that can allow them to start up again and grow.”
The President’s Policies Have Failed, Try Something Different
MSNBC
“I’m worried that the President’s proposals actually cost something, and I’m not sure how it’s going to be paid for. He did mention some kind of tax to be placed on financial institutions. Again, there’s no free money out there, I think we’ve seen that. The bottom line is overall, this economy could be doing a lot better. And the reason why we’re not doing better is the policies that have been promoted by this President and the White House haven’t worked. What our point is, as we continue to try and focus on the issue of economy and jobs, we’ve got to try something different. I think most people when they determine something doesn’t work, they try something different. And instead of focusing on new programs out of Washington, on new things this government can do, why don’t we focus on the private sector and growing small businesses because that’s where jobs come from.”

If you are so worried about US growth, why are you and Speaker Boehner on the TransAtlantic Policy Forum that co-wrote Global Governence 2025? And called for a TransAtlantic Congress to by-pass the US congress? I would really apprieciate an answer since I have asked you several other times alaready, Mr Cantor. Your silence is deafening…
