IAEA CALLS IT QUITS – U.N. nuclear inspections have failed in Iran, with inspectors leaving the country after just two days.
The decision to pull out comes after Iranian officials refused to allow a team of inspectors to visit a key military facility at Parchin, near Tehran. Without access, the team was unable to achieve its main goal: Draw a firm conclusion about whether or not Iran is developing nuclear weapons.
“It is disappointing that Iran did not accept our request to visit Parchin during the first or second meetings,” IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said last night in a statement posted online. “We engaged in a constructive spirit, but no agreement was reached.”
WHY WASN’T THE KORAN BURNING IN IRAN BY MOLSUMS NOTED HERE?? AND WHERE IS THE NOTE OF ANF TURNING THEIR WEAPONS ON AND KILLING COALITION FORCES????
KORAN-BURNING FALLOUT– Maj. Gen. David Hook of the Royal Marines will address reporters today live from Afghanistan at 10:30 a.m. EST in the Pentagon Briefing Room. The director of ISAF’s Force Reintegration Cell is set to discuss “governance and reconstruction,” but he’s likely to face questions about the Koran-burning incident that has sparked demonstrations in Afghanistan and a media firestorm in the United States. Early Wednesday morning it appeared that the protests would continue for a second day, with the U.S. Embassy in Kabul on lockdown, The New York Times reports. http://nyti.ms/yBWKxL
The White House, Panetta and John Allen issued apologies yesterday after thousands of Afghans began protesting the reported burning by ISAF personnel of copies of the Islamic holy book. “You’d think after so many years there would be some lessons learned about cultural and religious sensitivity,” Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the [criminal] Council on American-Islamic Relations, told POLITICO. “Apparently not.” http://politi.co/wdDuvr
QUESTION OF THE DAY — Will Allen’s [appeasement] efforts to control the damage pay off, or will the incident continue to incite anti-American protests and sentiment in the days and weeks to come?
