Through time, man has corrupted religion

Perhaps it would be helpful for the Feb. 26 letter writer who questions the similarities between Christianity and
Islam to read the Quran or attend an Islamic service before making such judgments. The three Abrahamic religions — Christianity, Judaism and Islam — share much, including history, prophets and similar values. It is man who has corrupted the teachings of God, and who has continuously used religion to justify violence. If we must condemn Islam for the acts of a few Muslim terrorists, then we must also condemn Christianity for similar acts of terrorism committed by those professing to be Christians.

Re-evaluate U.S. role after violent Quran riots

Religious fanatics throughout the Middle East burn our flag and effigies of our presidents, current and former, with abandon and impunity. Yet when we mistakenly destroy copies of their holy book, the Quran, for which we have both accepted responsibility and apologized, they riot, attack our embassies and kill our servicemen and civilians. And we remain in these countries, why?

Setting Qurans ablaze was an obvious affront

I consider myself a proud American. I love my country for many reasons. Among those reasons, I consider freedom of religion and freedom of speech to be very close to the top of the list. I also share the belief that the people running this country and protecting all of us share those same beliefs. So I find it very hard to believe that anyone running or protecting this nation could honestly try to make me believe that they did not know that burning the Quran was offensive to Muslims. Do we really have to spend money “training” people so it won’t happen again?
Does President Obama really think people in the Middle East are that stupid? “Sorry, folks, just a misplaced boo-boo.” Really?
It never should have happened. Shame on us! No excuse from anyone is enough to cover what was surely a well calculated and hateful snub, which we will now pay for dearly.
