REPORT SAYS GUNFIRE A ‘REGULAR’ OCCURRENCE FOR ICE AGENTS

ICEop.jpgAccording to records obtained by California watch through the federal Freedom of Information Act, ICE employees have accidentally or intentionally fired their guns or been involved in an operation where there was gunfire nearly 150 times from fiscal year 2004 through the first quarter of fiscal year 2011. Leftwing zealots tried to paint last month’s shooting of two agents by a disturbed fellow agent in the ICE offices in Long Beach as case in point that ICE agents were trigger-happy, when in fact that is as far from the truth as you can get.

Based on records beginning in 2006, Texas had the highest number of shootings, followed by California and Florida with 21 of 53 intentional shootings involving an animal. Animal deaths include self-defense from attacking pit bulls, euthanizing a deer and a cow that was hit by an immigration agent transporting a detainee. Considering about 13,000 agents – including investigators, immigration agents and deportation officers, are issued guns and that more than half the reported gunfire between 2004 and 2011 was unintentional (dropping, cleaning or occurred when reaching for guns), ICE agents are far from trigger-happy.

ALABAMA’S AND GEORGIA’S TOUGH IMMIGRATION LAW SAFE AND IN PLACE (FOR NOW)

gavel.jpgThe U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals decided yesterday that portions of strict immigration laws passed by Alabama and Georgia will remain in effect until the U.S. Supreme Court rules on its predecessor, Arizona’s SB 1070. Supreme Court oral arguments are set for April 25 with a ruling expected by the end of its term this summer. Both opponents and supporters of these states’ law appear to agree that the federal government’s lack of leadership and clarification of responsibilities are to blame.

Bob Dane, a spokesman for the Federation of American Immigration Reform says, “ These are not immigration bills that are creating new laws. These are states telling law enforcement ‘We’re encouraging you to enforce laws already on the books.’ Why? Because these are reactions to inaction in Washington and an abject failure to reinforce the borders.”
