What is apparent in the Bales case is that the level of violence carried out against civilians is strikingly similar to the terror and assassination that the Taliban inflicts on communities that dare to oppose them. This was clearly premeditated mass murder. But for what purpose? And who or what was behind it?

Perhaps it was just as simple as his losing control of reality. Three tours of having the threat of death lingering about him and watching the men he was responsible for, dying around you? I happen to believe that he just lost control of reality…It’s hard to discern what’s in a persons heart or head, made even more difficult by war?

I agree…but if he was blind, falling down, black out drunk, he couldn’t possibly have done all this…it makes much more sense the Taliban saw him and saw the perfect excuse to demonize the US again…we will never know the truth but I tend to believe the wife and compatriots of this soldier that he would NOT harm children…

I didn’t think about him being set up like that and it’s plausible, but he did say several times he didn’t remember anything. That can go several ways, an act to play down guilt, to use as an insanity plea or he blacked out either drunk, mentally or by some other cause…I quit driving 6 years ago because I couldn’t remember how I got from a to b and was confused how I got there. The doctors diagnosed me and told me what it’s called but I cannot remember it. But it has to do with your being able to complete task and not be aware of it consciously, it’s not on a subconscious level but a conscious level. I just tried to look it up but can’t find it…At any rate It scared me that I might hurt someone. It’s rare, but it’s possible the Sgt suffered the same…But your right, he could very well have been set up?
