Sen. James Alesi won’t seek re-election

ALBANY — Sen. James Alesi, R-Perinton, said Wednesday night that he will not seek re-election, saying he doesn’t want to risk Republicans losing the seat in November.
“It’s not really about Jim Alesi,” he said . “It’s about not wanting to risk going head to head with another Republican and risking the seat in a new district.”
Republicans hold a slim 32-30 seat majority in the Senate.
