“Andy’s Law” passed the Arkansas House of Representatives by a vote of 82-1 today. The bill is named for Private William “Andy” Long, US Army, who was killed in uniform by a Jihadist terrorist outside a Little Rock, Arkansas Army recruiting office on June 1st, 2009.
The whole chamber gave Andy’s father, Daris Long, a standing ovation after the vote.
The bill previously passed the Arkansas state senate by an overwhelming vote.
“Terrorism doesn’t just happen,” said bill sponsor Senator Jason Rapert. “Terrorism is committed and terrorist acts are perpetrated by individuals that are motivated and trained.”
The man that killed Daris Long’s son was one of them.
“Before Mr Bledsoe became Abduhlhakim Muhammed he was recruited, he was indoctrinated. He was selected to receive training in far off land of Yemen and after that committed horrible acts of terrorism in what he himself termed ‘self-avowed Jihad,'” said Rapert.
In the future, organizations who are involved in recruiting to Jihad, such as happened with Carlos Bledsoe in Nashville, Tennessee, will be subject to vastly more severe civil and criminal penalties on the state level in states that pass Andy’s Law.
So far, Louisiana and Arkansas are the only two states to pass such legislation. |
