Students oppose SAFE Act
A rally to repeal the SAFE Act, the controversial gun-control law, was held last week at the State University of New York at Albany where GOP Assemblymen Steven Katz and Steven McLaughlin spoke against the law. The rally was sponsored by Young Americans for Liberty, a SUNY Albany student group, to kick-off their “Second Amendment Week” at the college. About 25 people were there. McLaughlin, R-Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County, was the keynote speaker at the rally. He had harsh words for the Democrats, calling President Obama a “man-child” and blamed the Democrats for the government shutdown, before focusing on the SAFE Act. McLaughlin is considering a run for governor against Cuomo next year.
“[The SAFE Act is] the worst piece of legislation I’ve ever laid eyes on and after three years in that chamber, that’s saying something,” McLaughlin said. “Especially in upstate, people value their Second Amendment rights and that is why you are seeing this big push back all across upstate New York.”
