Don’t abandon our American ideals

H/T Pete
The Senate recently rejected critical support to our nation’s veterans. The poor in America are under constant attack. Support for the needs of people with disabilities and other at-risk Americans is dangerously eroded. The non-working elderly face constant threats to Social Security and Medicare. Every day, a greater number of so called “leaders” in America seem to believe that our most vulnerable citizens are essentially a drag on the economy and a waste of their time.

While there certainly are still a lot of caring Americans who strive to help the more vulnerable, a great many in leadership roles, as well as an alarming number of average Americans, openly express disdain for the disabled, the poor, the elderly and even for our brave veterans. When greed and self interest outweigh respect and support for the most vulnerable, then as a nation we have abandoned our humanity and discarded the ideals upon which America was founded.
