
Despite stating in an interview with The Advocate in 2008 that he would not make opposing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell “a litmus test” for military leaders, President Obama called the heads of the five service branches to the Oval Office in 2010 and told them that they must either support his efforts to abolish Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell or resign.
This revelation comes from Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Robert Papp, one of the men present at the 2010 meeting, who revealed in a video obtained by BuzzFeed that Obama made clear that he would not work with military leaders who opposed his stance on gays in the military. On January 8th, Admiral Papp addressed the issue to the corps during a Q&A on following difficult directives:
