1. CBS Touts Clinton Memoir: Hillary Was Comforted by Mom After 2008 Loss In an effort to promote Hillary Clinton’s upcoming memoir, Hard Choices, on Monday’s CBS This Morning, co-host Gayle King proclaimed: “Former Secretary of State, that would be Hillary Clinton, says no one had a bigger influence in her life than her mom. In a excerpt from her new memoir…she remembers Dorothy Rodham and the lessons that she learned.” An extended clip followed of Clinton reciting her a portion of her memoir for the book on tape version: “Having her [Dorothy Rodham] so close became a source of great comfort to me, especially in the difficult period after the end of the 2008 campaign. I’d come home from a long day at the Senate or the State Department, slide in next to her at the small table in our breakfast nook, and let everything just pour out.” http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/cbs-touts-clinton-memoir-hillary-was-comforted-mom-after-2008-loss

2. ABC, CBS, and NBC Freak Out Over Melting Antarctic Ice: ‘Much of South Florida’ Will Be ‘Underwater’
On Monday night, all three network evening newscasts hyped the dire consequences of a new NASA study which show that “large parts of the western Antarctica ice sheet appears to have collapsed.” ABC, CBS, and NBC hyperventilated over the report, and warned of rising sea levels in the immediate future. CBS News’ Elaine Quijano warned: “A 10-foot rise in sea level would submerge tunnels and subways here in Manhattan and parts of Queens and Brooklyn. But, Scott, it would also put the entire city of Miami Beach and much of South Florida underwater.” NBC Nightly News and ABC’s World News offered news briefs while the CBS Evening News provided a 1 minute and 37 second report. NBC’s Brian Williams fretted that “scientists say further degradation is almost certainly unstoppable. They say global warming is accelerating the pace of disintegration.” http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/abc-cbs-and-nbc-freak-out-over-melting-antarctic-ice-much-south-florida-will-be-underwate

3. Eleanor Clift Shockingly Claims Ambassador Stevens ‘Was Not Murdered’
Eleanor Clift stunned the McLaughlin Group panel over the weekend when she shockingly claimed that Ambassador Chris Stevens “was not murdered” in the Benghazi terrorist attacks. The Daily Beast contributor, in full White House spin control mode, gallingly spewed: “I would like to point out that Ambassador [Chris] Stevens was not murdered. He died of smoke-inhalation in the safe room in that CIA installation.” http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/eleanor-clift-shockingly-claims-ambassador-stevens-was-not-murdered

4. Bernard Goldberg: ‘Ridiculous’ 50% of Journalists Are Independents, Likely 85% Voted for Obama
“I say the poll is ridiculous,” Bernard Goldberg declared on Monday’s O’Reilly Factor in doubting the accuracy of a survey in which 28 percent of journalists self-identified as Democrats and 50 percent claimed to be independents. Goldberg was willing to buy that a mere seven percent of the press corps are Republican, “but only 28 percent of journalists say they’re Democrats and 50 percent say they’re independents? Impossible.” He predicted that, in reality, if injected with truth serum, “about 85 percent would admit that they voted for Barack Obama twice.” http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/bernard-goldberg-ridiculous-50-journalists-are-independents-likely-85-voted-obama

5. Networks Hype Social Media ‘Backlash’ Against Michael Sam Fueled By ‘Every Creep and Cretin’
Despite the overwhelmingly positive reaction to Michael Sam being drafted by the St. Louis Rams as the first openly gay player in the NFL, the Big Three network morning shows on Monday all hyped a negative one-word tweet from another NFL player as evidence of a social media “backlash” against Sam, where “every creep and cretin” could attack him. At the top of ABC’s Good Morning America, co-host George Stephanopoulos touted Sam “making history,” but fretted over “the backlash that blew up over his celebration sealed with a kiss,” referring to Sam embracing his boyfriend as he got the news. In a later report, correspondent Mara Schiavocampo warned that “not everyone is celebrating the news,” proclaiming: “It’s sports history sealed with a kiss, and this morning, a little controversy.” http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/networks-hype-social-media-backlash-against-michael-sam-fueled-every-creep-and-cretin
