“The people of Gaza are indeed under siege” (Aug. 16 letter) shows how the Hamas media manipulation is working on the low-information voter. The writer of this letter just doesn’t get it.

Hamas was elected by the Palestin­ian people as their government. If that government decides to wage war on Israel (i.e., buys weapons instead of food, water and medical supplies), so be it. When Israel returns fire and people are killed or injured, those people have to take some responsibil­ity for what’s happening.

Maybe next election a better choice of government will be made and a true peace may be accomplished.
