New York – Ebola has reached U.S. soil and Senator Charles Schumer says that there is no need to panic about the virus, but there is a need to tighten security at airports, ports of entry and hospitals, Senator Schumer said.

Schumer is calling on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to train airport agents to screw passengers for fevers when they arrive in the U.S. if the passengers have come from an Ebola hotspot.

Schumer is also pushing the Department of Homeland Security to create a database of passengers who fly to and from West Africa and share the database with hospitals across the country.

“As the largest Ebola epidemic in history continues to spread, we need to use every precaution to help prevent everyone, both in the U.S. and in Africa, from being further infected with the deadly virus,” Senator Schumer said in a statement. “The federal government, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has done good work thus far, but more commonsense steps at our airports, ports and hospitals should be taken to tighten up protections against the deadly virus’ spread in the United States.”

According to the CDC, this Ebola outbreak is the largest in history.
