Monroe200 kicks off at MCC

Updated: Saturday, October 25 2014

Rochester, N.Y. – A first of its kind effort to engage millennials in shaping their community’s future kicked off Saturday at Monroe Community College.

County Executive Maggie Brooks welcomed a group of millennials to the Monroe200, a program first announced in the 2014 State of the County Address.

“With 72 million strong across the nation, there’s no question that the millennial generation is poised to reshape America in so many ways,” Brooks said in a statement. “I’m proud the Monroe200 will help jump-start the conversation locally and I thank all of these talented and dedicated young people for answering the call to help shape the type of country they want to live in.”

The Monroe200 is a group of 200 millennials who have agreed to offer their opinions and suggestions on how Rochester can better attract and retain young talent.

Members were nominated by area colleges, employers and community organizations. Topics being covered by the Monroe200 are anywhere from education, housing, jobs, recreation and culture and safety and security.

The program is expected to last for six months.

More information on the Monroe200 can be found here.
