AUSTIN (KXAN) — As Waco police said they are noticing fewer armed bikers in the area and that threats are toning down, the reaction in Washington might just be heating up.
“I would be asking the question, if I was back in Washington, as to whether or not we had intelligence gaps on these organizations,” said Fred Burton, vice president of intelligence for global intelligence firm Stratfor. Burton is also a former counter-terrorism agent for the U.S. State Department.
However, Burton points out Waco police have said officers were in the area before the shooting.
“I don’t think that the biker gangs realize that, in many ways, this kind of event has woken a sleeping giant in Washington and as a result of that you’ll have a tremendous amount of national focus on these organizations now,” said Burton.
He said the reaction will likely extend to pressure from the Department of Justice, Homeland Security, FBI, and ATF.
