Yesterday was the start of Veritas’ first jury trial in federal court.

I’ll be spending this week in Asheville, North Carolina defending our right to expose the truth . . . no matter how shocking that reality is.

The trial, Teter v. Project Veritas Action Fund is the result of one of our most powerful video series, “Rigging the Election.”

In our series, Scott Foval, a now former top-level political operative has the following exchanges with our undercover journalist:

[Journalist]: was that you in North Carolina?

[Foval]: We, we did have people in North Carolina.

[Journalist]: The lady who got . . .

[Foval]: Yes.

[Journalist]: cold-cocked, that was you guys . . .

[Foval]: Uh-hm.

Continued:

[Journalist]: to punch an old lady, like, like what, what does . ..

[Foval]: the old lady probably was, you know, I’m gonna, I’m gonna go in ask him a question about Medicare…

[Journalist]: Uh-huh.

[Foval]: and some nut job punched her to keep her out.

Continued:

[Journalist]: Let me ask you, does that mean this North Carolina woman, does that mean she is going out again?

[Foval] We didn’t know who she was ahead of time, we just had somebody who connected with her before that rally and we knew that she was putting herself out there to draw fire, that’s all we know . . . She was one of our activists . . . Who had been trained up to birddog . . .

[Journalist]: So she was trained or she was not trained?

[Foval]: She, she was trained

This woman who was “cold-cocked” and who Foval alleges was trained to “birddog” is Shirley Teter. Teter made national news in 2016 when she was involved in an altercation at a Trump rally in North Carolina. She is now suing Project Veritas Action Fund for defamation over our 2016 videos.

Here is what you absolutely need to know as one of our supporters:

• Veritas accurately reported what a high-level political operative told our journalist. We did not alter the meaning of his statements and we preserved the video in its original form.
• Veritas released this content because we believe the public has a right to know what top-level political operatives are saying behind closed doors.
• This lawsuit is nothing more than attack on the free press by those who are ideologically opposed to what we do.

I stand by our journalism and I am confident that Veritas will win this lawsuit. Our methods will be vindicated yet again.

Stay tuned. My legal team tells me that this court case will reach a decision this week and I can’t wait to tell you what happens.
