Wow! Quick response, very good sign. πŸ‘ Linked video and photos.

I hope to present it to school board members where I live. I would definitely help pay for these in my district for classrooms!

Key Message Points

● Emergency preparedness has been at the forefront over the last few decades, and among school boards and administrators nationwide with the rise in the number and frequency of school shootings.

β—‹ The frequency of school shootings has quadrupled since 2013 (Source: Everytown’s 2022 Report)

β—‹ According to the Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS), students and teachers are more likely to be shot in the classroom than in any other area inside the school

● Following the tragedy that unfolded in Uvalde, Texas, Kevin Thomas, founder and CEO of KT Solutions, began to develop a concept in partnership with Honeywell, Cornerstone and American Technologies with the goal of making classrooms safer for students.

● The Rapid Access Safe Room (RASR) system is an emergency shelter or fold-out room that can deploy/expand in 10 seconds and offers ballistics protection in a disaster/crisis scenario.

β—‹ The wall system has a slim design, only takes up to 5 inches of wall depth when recessed, and functions as a white board when not deployed.

β—‹ Creates a protected/locked “safe room” providing a ballistic barrier between students and an active shooter/threat as well as inclement weather such as tornadoes.

β—‹ Ballistic protection (NIJ Level III) protects against all bullets used in school shootings.

β—‹ When deployed, the RASR locks with a key from the inside and can only be unlocked by the teacher or school administrator.

β—‹ Cameras are available to scan the classroom, alerting administrators and law enforcement as to where the threat is located.

β—‹ The locks are those used to protect U.S. ambassadors abroad.

β—‹ Ceiling security ensures no vulnerable penetration.

β—‹ The walls are customizable, fitted to classrooms of any size/age, and can be relocated, if needed, by certified installers.

● KT Solutions, in partnership with the City of Cullman, Alabama school board launched a pilot program to make classrooms safer for students in February 2023. One classroom is piloting the deployable 8’x8’ room and the other classroom features a permanent 6’x8’ room.

β—‹ The pilot installation has been well-received locally.

β—‹ Teachers are feeling less anxious about coming to work, law enforcement feeling more capably prepared

to respond to active shooter threat, and the barrier space serves also as a distraction-free area for special

needs students.

β—‹ Children in the pilot classrooms are referring to the shelter as their β€œcalm cottage.”

● Numerous funding initiatives, including the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, passed in response to the Robb

Elementary shooting in Uvalde, TX, provide securing grants to schools.

● RASR was created with school classrooms in mind, but we plan to expand our safety and security solutions in

universities, government facilities, corporations, etc.

● With school safety experts continuously urging schools nationwide to create an Emergency Operations Plan

(school EOP), integrating technology and solutions that make classrooms safer will be critical.
