NH HOUSE APPROVES HIGHER TUITION FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
The New Hampshire House voted 250-88 in favor of legislation requiring in-state students to prove they are legal residents of the United States in order to receive in-state tuition. The bill now moves to the Senate for approval. Supporters of the bill say the burden is upon the applicant to prove his or her citizenship by requiring the same signed affidavit and documentation process applicants already use to prove state residency.
Opponents are saying no one testified during the committees hearing on the bill to indicate this was a problem in the University Syste m of New Hampshire and are arguing that any child who grew up in the state and graduated from its schools should be afforded in-state tuition. They also argue that it is not the states responsibility to enforce immigration laws but that of the federal government.

NEW REPORT FINDS AZ HAS REVERSED THE FLOW OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
A new study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform finds that Arizona has reversed the flow of illegal immigration by adopting state policies designed to discourage illegal immigrants from settling or remaining in the state. The report, Recent Demographic Change in Arizona: Anatomy of Effective Immigration Reform Legislation, finds that the number of illegal immigrants in the state has dramatically decline since 2004 when the state first adopted additional enforcement measures.
In addition to the decline in the illegal immigrant population, Arizona realized significant savings in state costs, a drop in the number of families living in poverty, and a decline in the violent crime rate.
As far as numbers are concerned, between 2008 and 2009, Arizonas illegal immigrant population declines by about 100,000 or about 18 percent compared to the national average decline of 8 percent. Arizona also saved $97 million because of a 24.4 percent decline in Limited English Proficient students enrolled in the public school system.
